The Importance of Insulation

After living in our first home for a few years, my wife and I could tell that something was wrong. It was exceptionally difficult to regulate our indoor climate, and we constantly found ourselves adjusting the thermostat. Our house was perpetually uncomfortable, and it was really frustrating. Fortunately, because we decided to hire a professional HVAC contractor to inspect our system, we were able to detect serious insulation problems early. We decided that it might be helpful to make a website dedicated to providing free information about heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, so that other people could recognize serious issues.

Unclogging Your Sink Drain

If your kitchen sink is clogged, you will want to fix it quickly. A kitchen sink clog can be annoying when you are trying to cook and take care of dishes, so it really should not be left in nonworking condition very long if you want to continue using your kitchen as normal. A clog can sometimes be fixed by using a few household tools to try to dislodge or remove the material inside that is obstructing the water flow. Here are some different methods you can give a try to get your kitchen sink back to working order.

Plunging Or Snaking

You can try to use a plunger on your sink to dislodge whatever is blocking water from getting down the drain. Place the rubber end of the plunger right over the drain and quickly push down and pull up while holding onto the plunger handle. Sometimes the force of this action will suck the material up and out of the drain, allowing the water to go down normally.

If this does not work, try using a plumber's snake to push the obstruction from above. Take off the drain cover and stick the end of the snake into the hole of the drain. Unwind the snaking tool until it is not able to move any longer. Wiggle it around to jostle whatever it is hitting, in an attempt to dislodge.

Take Apart The Piping

You can try to take the P-Trap pipe out from underneath the sink to see if something is stuck at the bend in your sink. Turn off the water supply by turning the valve under the sink to the left. Place a bucket underneath the pipe to catch any water in the basin. Unscrew the nuts on each side of the bending pipe under the sink, using a wrench to do the job.

Slowly start to remove the pipe as water will start to drip out instantly. After you have collected all the water that was in the sink, clean out the P-Trap and see if there was any material that may have been lodged inside. Replace all the parts and see if the sink works normally.

Drain Cleaners

It is not recommended to use products that claim to cut through grease and hair. These products can strip the inside of your pipes and can actually cause further damage to your plumbing. Instead, hire a professional plumber from places like to come to your home to take a look at a clog that you are not able to repair on your own.
