The Importance of Insulation

After living in our first home for a few years, my wife and I could tell that something was wrong. It was exceptionally difficult to regulate our indoor climate, and we constantly found ourselves adjusting the thermostat. Our house was perpetually uncomfortable, and it was really frustrating. Fortunately, because we decided to hire a professional HVAC contractor to inspect our system, we were able to detect serious insulation problems early. We decided that it might be helpful to make a website dedicated to providing free information about heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, so that other people could recognize serious issues.

Building A New Home? 2 Types Of Fire Protection Systems You Should Consider

If you are building a new home you want to ensure your family stays safe. One way to do this is to install a fire protection system. This can allow you and your family to get out of your home safely if there is a fire. There are a variety of systems you can choose from, two of which are listed below.

Multipurpose Fire Protection System

Multipurpose fire protection systems connect fire sprinklers with your cold-water plumbing system in your home. This means as long as your water is running, the sprinkler system will work. You would hire a plumber to install this system for you. They will use tubing, such as CPVC or PEX, as well as the fittings. The plumber will use special software to determine how to lay out the fire sprinklers. The fire sprinklers are installed and then the plumbers runs the tubing to the sprinklers. This tubing runs through the ceiling so it is not seen. Once the tubing is attached, water tight sprinkler fittings are tightened. When finished, the plumber will do a flow test to ensure the fire sprinklers will work properly for you.

If there is a fire, deflectors drop down from the ceiling and the sprinkler heads then open and start to spray water on the fire. To increase your safety, you can connect this type of fire protection system to an alert center. This means when the sprinklers are activated the system notifies the local fire department automatically.

You should never try to install this system on your own as it has to be custom-designed for your home.

Standalone Fire Protection Systems

A standalone fire protection system is separate from your plumbing. This is because this system uses antifreeze to cool the water and this antifreeze cannot get into your drinking water. In order to do this, the plumber installs back-flow prevention. You do have to have this system maintained at least once per year by a plumber to ensure it is working properly.

If you want fire sprinklers in more than one room you will have to install separate standalone systems. A standalone system also cannot be connected to a control center so it will not contact the fire department if you have a fire.

Talk with a company that sells fire protection systems to learn much more about them. You can then talk to a plumber about installing the system in your home.
